Lucky Dube
Lucky Dube, a son of Africa, is among the notables who died in
2007. He exemplified the interconnections of origins, identity and
influence. Acknowledged as “ the best-loved and biggest-selling
reggae star in South Africa,” he weaved his native Zulu heritage
with the stirrings of Bob Marley’s reggae and political message.
Through Rastafarianism, he portrayed the common traditions from
Jamaica to South Africa. But he was never sanguine and repeatedly
addressed the ominous burdens. One such, uncontrolled violence,
ended his relatively young life .
